Design and Evaluation of IPFS: A Storage Layer for the Decentralized Web

Hello new and old subscribers!

This week’s paper is Design and Evaluation of IPFS: A Storage Layer for the Decentralized Web.

This paper discusses the open source IPFS project, an implementation of a distributed file store. Originally released in 2015, IPFS is far from a research prototype - the system is deployed at scale, running on hundreds of thousands of machines around the world in order to serve a broad userbase.

IPFS aims to support the “decentralized web”, a growing ecosystem of distributed applications - for example, Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has created a flock of new users to Mastodon, a federated alternative.

The paper review is best enjoyed on the blog.

Until next time,
