This week’s paper is Elastic Cloud Services: Scaling Snowflake’s Control Plane.

Snowflake is a company that makes a globally distributed data ware house product. Their database must reliably respond to business-critical, customer-issued queries, while abstracting away scaling challenges associated with rapidly changing load.

Behind the scenes, Snowflake must also reduce single points of failures by deploying across multiple cloud providers and the regions within them. These constraints make for an interesting set of technical challenges.

The paper review is best enjoyed on my blog.

Until next time,

Micah
